Rereading the Hardy Boys series has been an opportunity to untangle my nostalgia around the sleuths, who inadvertently helped me understand my identity through a fictional world not exactly built with boys like me in mind.

Frank and Joe are accompanied on all their adventures by their particular chum, the chubby farmboy Chet Morton. After Frank and Joe solve their first case, Fenton—although he had not wanted his sons to get into the detective business because of the dangers involved—starts asking for their help on some of his cases. For instance, they find Jenson but then sit around and discuss the case in great detail with Jenson, giving the criminals time to catch up with them. Hardy Boys 56 book

For the first time sincethe books will be issued in hardcover, along with paperback editions. As a 7-year-old, I felt the books extended an invitation, a promise: You, too, can save the day.

I did not go into the living room to watch television, I really stayed in bed as I felt that sick. The couple shared a kiss twice in the series; the first in book 5, The Last Resortwhen the two are trapped after an avalanche and fear that they will die.

When Mildred Bensonthe author of the early Nancy Drew volumes, was called to testify about her work for the Syndicate, Benson's role in writing the manuscripts of early titles was revealed in court with extensive documentation, contradicting Adams' claims to authorship.

These are great gifts to get kids, even kids who are not interested in reading - possibly to get them to read! The end result, however, was less the removal of stereotypes than the removal of non-white characters altogether [55] and the creation of an "ethnically cleansed Bayport.

He also does the endurance running for the Bayport High track team and is on the swim team. After Frank and Joe solve their first case, Fenton—although he had not wanted his sons to get into the detective business because of the dangers involved—starts asking for their help on some of his cases.

Rereading the Hardy Boys series has been an opportunity to untangle my nostalgia around the sleuths, who inadvertently helped me understand my identity through a fictional world not exactly built with boys like me in mind.

Also all the books now had a blood red spine and rear cover, with the rear cover simple saying that the Hardy Boys were back in 12 hardcover adventures and listing the titles. The book wore on me towards the end, although it was good overall. In the originals, they have motorcycles, but Joe totals his in The Shore Road Mystery and they purchase a yellow convertible soon afterwards.

International publications[ edit ] Hardy Boys books have been extensively reprinted in the United Kingdomwith new illustrations and cover art.
